These are basically like proms, only young girls go with their fathers (it's a daddy-daughter bonding thing) and pledge that they'll be virgins until they marry. Dads are told that it's their responsibility to guard their daughters' virginiity. These are gaining popularity with conservative Evangelical Christians.

I can see where a little girl and her father might enjoy this. But virginity has never been much of an issue to me. I've never believed in being a virgin until marriage or that my father was supposed to guard my virginity. So it wouldn't have been of any interest to me when I was growing up. Besides, I wasn't the type who enjoyed dressing up either. People have different values and worldviews. For those to whom it would have a meaning, I think it'd be okay.

It's unnatural and perverse so it's quite in keeping with my image of evangelical Christians. I've reached a stage where nothing would surprise me about those people. They seem to revel in absurdity.
