for the same reason all of our ancestors did... opportunity. remember? america was "discovered" in 1492 even though natives already lived here and WE start making laws about immigration... hmmm, that's called hypocritical!

The Mexican Revolution caused a lot of social instability in Mexico around then, so there was a large wave of immigration from Mexico to the US southwest. There were jobs here, and Mexican immigrants were initially welcomed, even courted for these jobs. Eventually the Mexican workers became a scapegoat for Americans who couldn't find jobs. Sort of like now. I don't have a source. It is just something I know.

For different reasons. I'm an immigrant and I came here because I want a better future for my kids. Most of us don't come to kill or to have everything free. I work and I don't get anything free we just want the best for our families. If you check in the history of this country you can see this country was made for immigrants.

I moved here, because my husband is a US citizen and the immigration requirements for my country have raised so high it was financially impossible for me to get him live over there in Europe.

they want to come because here they can get on the program for free food, free housing, and to them free health care and to those that want to work a job at a menial wage (good for large corporations) and here they do not have to do as the ones that immigrate to their country, they do have to learn the language or the laws for we as the host country will adhere to their language and make the laws they are familiar with our laws and they are happy heaven forbid that we offend any of them with making them assumilate to our country, let them try to get along in Canada say Quebec where the language is French the signs are in french and when you get on the phone you do not get choose option 1 for french and option 2 for spanish

Because there government lies to them. Talk to a few, they hear all about how the US is going to pay off all of our debts, and how we are going to be living these wonderful lifes of leasure with other people waiting on our every need. There are even web sites to make there claims sound more realistic.
Yeah life is better hear than some places, but it is the lies told by there leaders that get them to risk everything.

I would like to think it is because of the freedoms that are offered here. The opportunities to become something better than they were in the own country. Perhaps it is to contribute something to this society that they were unable to contribute in their home country. Unfortunately, it appears that they want to come here so they can receive free medical care, free education and other similar "hand-out" programs without making any real contribution to this society. This of course, is not meant to, in any malign those immigrants who are trying to come here legally to do just those aforementioned activities.
