Hi! I've got a couple of questions about panic attacks. About six months ago I started having them. I went to the doctor, and he wouldn't prescribe me anything and told me that I needed to just relax...
They are still occuring and I'm not sure what will help. When I am not having panic attacks I am constantly anxious and constantly worrying about everything. I'm just not sure how to feel better... can someone offer some advice? Thank you...

Hello While_lov...I too had panic attacks and I was prescribed with Prozac and Rivotril (an anti-convulsant). Panic attacks are caused by an imbalance in brain neurotrasmiters. This is why you are always anxious and constantly worrying. Medicines work to balance this neurotrasmiters and reduce anxiety. However there are other tips. When you get a panic attack breath deep as many times as you can, a panic attack has a certain time, if you breath deep it will go away. If you get scared about having the panic attack you will get another one. So never be afraid of them!. You can also do activities such as Yoga (teaches you to breath properly) and acupuncture. I would say....go to another doctor. Argentox2@yahoo.com

I never realised Panic Attacks were so debilitating until I got them and I was freaking out I did go to a doctor who gave me a script for Trazadone which is not addictive and its good for sleep which helps if you get enough rest and if they creep up on me when I`m out somewhere I just breathe in and out slowly a few times and that does help and I`m trying to monitor situations that are anxiety provoking to me,I`m still trying to figure out where they are really stemming from as I hate taking meds just for the hell of it.

I used to get panic attacks in my teen years. Exercise helped get rid of them. It's rare that I get one today.

Have you tried talking to a therapist? This is a good way to address the issues that are making you anxious. The therapist will also help you come up with ways to relax that fit you and your lifestyle.

Also, if you use caffeine it is a good idea to lay off of it for a while.

I have them too!! I had to tell myself that I am in control of my own destiny. I am not letting it control me anymore.. I wrote down things that make me happy and when ever I get to feeling like an attack is coming on, I read them. I also picture myself in a place that makes me happy for example, on the beach or on a mountain or something that i like.hope this helps.
