The "terrorists" in Iraq have been bred out of the Iraq War. They belong to different Islamic factions, each fighting for control of the new Iraq.
So why do Americans feel this war can be "won". Each attack breeds more people willing to kill or die for their cause. American soldiers aren't going to stop the attacks so I have to wonder, why do many Americans insist on staying there until the war is won.
Could be a long stay if they insist on trying.

Jay-They aren't leaving, they're scaling back since they have more troops than needed in their relatively calm area of Iraq
Also, I'm amazed that you feel Baghdad will ever be secured.

Only about 30% of Americans believe that we should still be in Iraq! They are the ones making money off of the Police Action.
The other 70% are wondering why we were ever there in the first place & want it to end, now!
The majority of people in this country, England & other nations who first went in to help us are either withdrawing or have withdrawn. The only ones who are insisting that we stay are those who sent us in the first place! They seem to think that we are all ignorant of what they are trying to do there. They are trying to take over the oil fields, selling military equipment etc. Money for the few is why we are still there. Our President will not do the will of the people. Congress is the only one to stop him & they are not quite sure of how to do it without endangering our troops already there. Things are going to change, soon. The people are fed up!

You hit it right on the head. The American people did not understand what Bush was doing or where Bush's actions might lead the United States. Bush is among the many Americans that did not learn anything from the Vietnam War except that it makes no sense blaming the Troops, which is a good lesson.
Vietnam and South East Asia where full of people who were unknown to America. They were smart, tough, determined and fatalistic about the invaders of their Country. It was a major part of their history to fight off large and dangerous enemies that wanted to dominate Vietnam and South East Asia.
They kicked our *** is what happened, Bush and many others did not get it. So Bush sends his formal military into a land of conflict, hatred and fanatical religious and ethnic divisions.
The results are obvious, and we will do it again in the future if America does not learn to respect other people even if they look weak and uneducated.

Absolutely. Just as soon as the majority of Iraqis can come to the realization that their secular differences should not over ride their allegiance to their country and a government that answers to the people - instead of the other way around.
Will this happen? - well, that's definitely a debate with no middle ground. We should know in the coming months if a truly democratic society can bring these fanatics into the 21st century.
If not, they deserve the government they get. Period.

You should keep abreast of the news. The Brits brought peace to another city in Iraq and now they are going home. When we succeed in Baghdad, our troops will come home. The Brits are a prime example of what's possible.

Victory can be measured by the number of defense contracts awarded. Halliburton is currently the most victorious company in Iraq.
There will be no victory for the people of Iraq or the common people of the US. The best we can do now is prevent more soldiers from dying.

Most american's are delusional. Mission accomplished was just a banner that meant bush landed safely on the aircraft carrier. They want a victory parade with ticker tape and flags waving.Dust off that mission accomplished banner!

sooo...if you are right, that means eventually we will have to kill all iraquis as they succumb to terrorism...then lets just bypass all the crap and do it now, and take over the country...i say iran would become a lot tamer with an huge american base right next door and the rest of the middle east would eventually settle down and become either stable...or decide to keep on using terroristic tactics and then we will just get tired of their crap and do away with middle easterners altogether...problem solved...

there is no longer one. this is not news. this information did not come out just today.
the best that can be done is to leave iraq as secure as possible for the gov. there to be able to get the most done. this is trough no fault of ours. the iraqis have not held up their end of the bargain.
