To be close to you. And, to be the center of attention. Cats know where everyone's attention is focused, and they will go there. Has your cat ever sat in front of the TV while you're all watching it? It's because it knows that's where all your attention is going, and it wants some. When you're working on your laptop, that is where your focus is, so that's where your cat wants to be.

Mine likes the laptop, newspaper and plastic bags. They're funny. Maybe the laptop is warm?!

Yep. Cats like to be the focal factor and could do in spite of it takes. i've got had cats stroll throughout my papers, my computing gadget, my keyboard. they have a humorous, yet effective way of doing it.

your cat wants attention from you, when Im on my laptop my cat sits on the keyboard, when Im on the desktop he jumps up and sits in front of the screen so I cant see, and as soon as I shut the computer off he is fine, he just wants attention

first, he likes to be near you, and 2, the laptop gets warm as it is on longer. cats like warm/hot stuff.

for 2 reasons - the cat wants your attention, and sits right where you are working, and also, they like the warmth of any appliance.

He may see that you give it "attention" and that he wants attention... Just pet him and get him off of it =) He'll get the picture...
