Considering the fact that the pope is just a man like you and me, the only "spiritual insight" he could provide would be what he could read in the Bible.
No man receives direct revelations from God other that what is written in God's word. God does NOT speak directly to people anymore.

If one follows the teachings of his religion, and one looks at the actions of the Popes over history.......
one can arrive at the insight of looking towards inner religion, and that organized religion's first motive is the organization, and not the spiritual aspects of the religion.
I don't think it was intentionally given however.
