how many times would he have won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award? Also don't you think that if the English cricket team deserved their MBEs, Joe Calzaghe should have had a knighthood

I`m English and a great admirer of Joe, hes probably the best boxer ever to come from anywhere in Britain, yes he should have been sports personality of the year, I nominated him and voted for him. Yes a knighthood would be well deserved. I don`t think the reason for him not getting it was because he was Welsh though more like because he seems very shy and withdrawn outside the ring, does`nt push the media side of things. Despite having held the world title/s for so long and being unbeaten as a professional a lot of people hav`nt even heard of him. Also, he`s not a heavyweight, they get most of the press coverage. By the way Joe was born in England.

I wouldnt be surprised if Calzaghe and Hatton get MBE's soon anyway, hopefully in the new year honours list. I must admit though i was at a loss to explain how Joe never got that sports personality award, i mean some gymnast who no one had ever heard of got the third prize as i remember and a horse rider who is only famous because she is related to the queen actually won the whole thing it was a farce. I would say that the sports personality award is a joke and isnt worth the air time on TV hopefully they will scrap the thing by next year so we dont have to put up with a complete load of crap again.
Oh yeah and i do agree the England (and Welsh) cricket team didnt really deserve MBE's, cricket isnt even a sport, its just a bunch of private school boys running round a field after a ball.

I was shocked that Joe Calzaghe didn't win sports personality of the year, i don't neccesarily think he should have won it in previous years, but this year just gone i thought he was a certanty to win. Ok Zara Philips was a world champ in her sport but it is a bit of a fringe sport, i don't think ive ever met anyone who does showjumping or whatever she does. Also with that sort of sport surely alot of her success is down to the horse she rides and as a member of the royal family im sure shes not short of a ride or two ( no pun intended). The same goes for motor racing theres usually only two teams in with a shout of winning the rest just make up the numbers, the car wins it more than the actual driver it seems . I didn't know the cricket team got MBE,s but then again im not too bothered whether they win or lose id rather watch showjumping than that.
