yes probably has the tape worms. Take him to the Vet. There eggs like hook worms in the soil and can live there for a long time as eggs. These are also other types of worms dogs can get but my moms dog has only had tape worms.
there are 2 types of tape worms dogs can get, one is from fleas. Tapeworms are made up of tiny segments that look like grains of rice. Each of these segments may contain eggs. Generally, you know your dog has tapeworms because tapeworms trigger severe itching and discomfort around the anus and the segments can be seen clearly in the feces. Your dog will be rubbing its butt on the carpet or grass and may start loosing weight.

Licking his butt is not a sign of worms. I don't know why so many people think scooting, butt licking etc are a sign of worms..in most cases it is a sign of an anal sac issue and in others it is an allergy or allergic reaction to something.
Except for tapeworms or unless your dog is loaded with worms you won't see them with the naked eye and often there are no symptoms that a dog has worms...the only way to tell 100% for sure and also what type a dog has is to take a stool sample to the vet and have a fecal test done.

Seems most of the answers you are getting are referring to tape worms. There are worms, hook and whip, that don't show up in the stools, only a test can confirm those. Tapes are actually caused from fleas.
Also there are round worms that look like spaghetti in the stools.
Your dog could also be licking because he has a uirnary tract infection, could have yeast, there are several reasons, not always a sign of worms..
And I am sorry, but eating grass is NOT going to kill worms...
And if your dog has white gums instead of pink, it is more than worms, you better get to a vet ASAP....
My suggestion, take a stool sample to the vet and have it checked.

Yes, there will be little things in his fecal matter that looks like rice. Also, scooting on the carpet, intense licking, just can't stop licking, chewing on themself. Also, if your dog eats alot, but doesn't gain weight, worms are eating his food. He may be lethargic, again not getting nutrients needed. If he doesn't have those symptoms but is constantly licking, his anal glands might be plugged up and need expressed. You would need the vet to press it out, unless you feel comfortable doing it. The gland can avoid getting plugged by bulking up the dog's diet, causing more pressure when he goes to the bathroom. If the dog develops hot spots from the licking, you will need to address that issue as well, so it is important to figure out what it is. Good luck.

Check his poop for visible white worms, they look like rice. Other signs are decreased or increased appetite. Butt licking is more likely a sign of full anal glands. Does your dog have a doggy odor that smells kinda like seafood? Check and express his glands if needed by you, a groomer or vet. That's one easy way to rule that out.

usally, if a dog has worms they will have diarreaha and you will see the worms in their poop. Also, after they do thier buisness, they will rub their butt on the ground, because sometimes the worms hang out of their butt (ew) you should take him/her to a vet if you see any of these signs, sense worms can be deadly if not treated.

Could be worms or could be a swollen anal gland. Take him to the vet and they can make the determination and fix the problem for you.

I'm sorry but I am not sure. But I do have some ideas of how to find out:
1: Call Petco or something. They will know for sure!
2: Look on the internet. A lot of websites probably have that kinda stuff on it.

Check his gums. If they are more whitish in color than pick, he is probably wormy. Take him outside and if he wants to eat grass, then he's wormy. Dogs eat grass as natures way of killing the worms. My husband says that when they swallow the grass blades, the blades cut the worms and kill them. His beagles eat grass all the time. Either way, a trip to the vet is needed.
