I was just scrolling through old questions about the Mormon church (correctly called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and I noticed something I found quite interesting.

Almost everyone that bashed the LDS faith, or described our 'weird' beliefs, quoted sites and references not of LDS origin.

Doesn't it make more sense to ask the LDS people, then to ask the people that have a reason to dislike our religion?

For example, if I have questions about Catholicism, I am not going to ask a Baptist preacher. I'm going to ask a Catholic priest.

So doesn't it make sense to do the same with Mormons (or for any religion, for that matter)? Why would we lie about our beliefs, after all there are so many different types of religions in the world, it's not like we're the only different point of view out there.

PS - If you're ever curious about what Mormons really believe, visit

It's a website created by the leader of the LDS church to specifically explain what we believe to non-LDS people.

I did ask Mormons. I met a lot of wonderful people. I questioned some of their beliefs and they gave me answers when they knew them.

I agree with you completely, if you wish to know a certain topic do not rely on people who oppose that topic. Instead first learn the topic, then listen to the opposing views to see if they are valid.

Mormons have a much clearer approach to explaining God, Jesus, and even the afterlife. I find their religion much more straightforward than other denominations of Christianity. I also respect their emphasis on family values, and their attitude.

some issues we are asked we gained't answer, Mormons do no longer declare to be all understanding, some issues could desire to be taken on faith. If we knew each little thing why might we could desire to flow to church? you'll be able to desire to be a very unhappy individual to take a seat down and spend time and potential attempting to think of of common procedures to be gruesome to the Missionaries. Kneel down and say a truthful prayer and ask your Heavenly Father if this is the top factor you may desire to do right this moment.

I love learning about the beliefs of different religions (one of the reasons I like this board), but yeah, I always pay closer attention to what the actual members or people living a religion or belief system have to say as I'm learning.

Because people for some reason think you won't tell them the "whole truth" or they want an opinion from someone that isn't a member- which is really silly to me.
There will always be opposition to the gospel until Christ comes again. Satan knows the church is true, therefore, he will fight against it any way he can...sadly many people are doing his work for him and they don't even know it.
Just strengthen and share your testimony when you can and endure to the end!

I see your point, but-
my answer- I believe it is probably best to direct them to your Bible- or whatever its called in your religion. If they want to know- that should be where all the answers com from. Right?

It is hard to ask most believers because of the bias in opinion or perhaps even there defensiveness of their religion.
I tend to think all religions should be rethought. We should not follow the religious beliefs and doctrine of man but the truths of God. His truth gets lost in the religion of it all.

Your logic is ideal, yet unfortunately, most people just like to gossip and look at the bad side of people.

Like Abraham Lincoln said: Common sense is not so common.

ok.

why does DNA evidence clearly show that the 'nephites' are of northern asian origin, rather than from Israel as the BoM suggests?

where are the plates of brass?

where is the liahona?

why is 1/5th of the BoM plagiarized from the bible?

why did Joseph Smith try to patent the book as the "author" in Toronto for $5000?

why do you wear strange underwear and carry out strange occultic rituals within the secretive confines of your holy temples?

why is it always neccessary to bear testimony every week that LDS is the "true" church, is it easy to forget?

It makes sense to me to go straight to the source and do away with any speculation. If you want to know Mormonism, or any other "ism", ask one who practices it.

Sometimes its better to get an objective view of a religion, it will probably be more accurate.
