I don't think it should be a separate charge. I had three crowns in the past year, and I was never charged separately.

I don't think it always requires crown build up, either. When they had to do extra work for my crowns, there was no extra charge. The only extra charge I incurred was for gold vs. porcelin.

Where do you live? I had 3 crowns (gold) on molars for about $600 each 2 years ago..If around a dental school check that out..much less expensive yet

thats pretty pricey, and its not always necessary to do build up when replacing a crown its bull@#$^
