im a care assistant.
If the patient has suffered a stroke down one side of there body dress that side first. For example if the left hand side is effected put the left arm in top, shirt, etc first.
Put feet in trousers whilst seated and With the correct eqipment (if you are caring from home - two ppl must lift to avoid back injury but if you have a hoist or stand aid use that) lift patient to standing to pull up garment.
If the patient is wearing a skirt it is often easier to pull it over the head of patient.
OR Dress the patient whilst lying in bed which is easier than standing and lifting and may be less frightening for patient.
Hope this helps x

The best way to dress a stroke patient is if the person is mobile and you are dressing the top half put the affected limb into the blouse or shirt first, bottom half but the legs in to trousers and get the person if possible to stand and then pull up, if the person is unable to assist in this way, use the rolling technique and dress on the bed

You should expand your question, is the patient completely incapacitated or has only one side affected by the stroke? For paralisis on one side, you would start on the affected side. (i.e) put the weak arm in the shirt sleeve first, etc. For a total body, dress one side at a time and roll the person, tucking the clothing underneath to be reached at the other side. Roll them back and dress the other half of the body.

Surely that depends on the extent of their stroke. Some people are left totally immobile, whilst others are left with the loss of some use of one arm, etc.

I agree with the lady at the top and wish to add that clothing should be easy to work with - open shirts, zippers, snaps, pants with elasticized waists, shoes with that slip on or have Velcro fasteners. You get the idea.
