Don't they realize that the difference of the gifts is obvious?..Why do they do this?

She's OUR child........However she is biracial.Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Because they don't like you and the child that much so they only give gifts 'for show'. This way nobody can say they didn't think of you at all.
You said 'our' child but is it really 'your' child and his 'step-child'?
Some families won't open up to anyone outside of their own blood.

Define crappy? I don't give all my family the same thing some just get a gift cards... its just an aknowledgment that they are part of the family. I am not going to go out there and spend $100 on anyone, especially when I don't know their taste in things, and they never have told me anything they want. I have given my son inlaws large things and small things and I dont' think it meant of hill of beans to them either way they never said thanks. So they can get gift cards to fast food from now on.. at least they can use it!

My mother in law has the same habit. If she knows I dislike certain things that is what she buys If I make the mistake of saying I don't like a certain store here comes the gift certificate. I toss out what she buys me. My husband is aware & I would rather he not say anything it's not important to me. If you have an issue your husband needs to say something. If you say something you are going to have a battle on your hands. Let your husband handle his family they will not be upset with him & might stop the crappy gifts if it upsets your husband.

They like him the best naturally and they're too ignorant to know better. After my inlaws met my family and saw how my parents gave everyone the same level of gift, they learned to do the same.

Why not ask, how to get them to stop? I had this problem & told my man he'd better discuss this with his family b/c I won't tolerate them treating me badly & certainly NOT my children. Kids notice! It's cruel. Your husband should be man enough to stand up to them & let them know that from now on they are to buy a "family" gift since they have such a problem making it equal. It will also be cheaper for them to buy ONE mutual gift instead. Everybody wins! Bring this up to your husband, or better yet, have him read this! It's worked for us! Good luck!

ask him why he accepts the gifts then, he shouldn't if he sees his wife and his child, crappy gifts, and cares for them. And have him talk to them about that too.

You can't figure that one out. They don't like you and the kids. My husband ex-family did the same thing to him and his kids, more the mother in law because she favor her other grand kid.

Because they are stupid and you shouldn't care. Just forget about them. You can get nice stuff for yourself and your child. Teach your child not to do this to anybody.

Sorry, but they probably don't like you very much, and they're not classy enough to just keep it to themselves. They're passive/agressive and take it out on you that way. You stole their son from them or some other "reason"...

Obviously they don't like either of you. Why are they that blatant, classless, inconsiderate of him (indirectly), and tacky? Clearly they were born that way.
