We are both overweight me about 30-40 pound and he about 80 pounds. We bought a Bowflex and use it at least 4 times a week for about 3 weeks now. We are both seeing results and losing weight. In general we eat ok and haven't really change dour eating habits. My husband just started going to the gym twice a week and is now finding that he is hungry all the time. Is this normal? Is it just due to his increased metabolism?? We are both a little concerned?

Of course it's normal, he's burning more fuel. He'll do better doing like cheri<3 says. He can have healthy snacks, they're not many calories. And drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses aside from any other liquids he consumes. Aside from the fact that we need to drink water it will help fill him up.

Hey, I found this at QualityHealth.com today like I told someone else:
Hunger can strike at any time. Do you end up snacking your way through the morning and afternoon hours? Or perhaps you find yourself still dissatisfied, just moments after you've cleared your plate.
Recent findings have uncovered the 5 reasons why people get so famished – and a foolproof plan to keep those hunger pangs away. For example, eating sparingly throughout the day can lead to binge behavior at night. Though, munching on small meals throughout the day will keep your hunger at bay – and your metabolism on the right track.
5 reasons you're always famished — and how to break the cycle!
1. You eat the right foods at the wrong times. Eating at different times every day can make it difficult for you to tune in to your body's hunger signals. It can also throw your metabolism out of whack. Try writing out a schedule that focuses on eating within two hours of waking up, and every 3 to 5 hours after that for the rest of the day.
2. You don't eat the right breakfast. The breakfast foods you choose will have a major impact on how satisfied you feel the rest of the day. For example, a breakfast bar may seem like a good choice at the time, but its mega-dose of simple sugars will have you rummaging through the fridge well before lunchtime. Instead, build a morning meal with a healthy balance of protein and carbs — so you're not counting the seconds 'til noon.
3. Your diet has no flavor. If grilled chicken and steamed veggies are your mealtime staple, you're going to get bored. And this is when dangerous binges can occur. Get creative in the kitchen with spices galore — they're a quick and guiltless way to really add great flavor! Texture is also key. Aim for combinations of creamy, crunchy, and chewy — to kip your taste buds on their toes!
4. You stock-pile your calories. Do you eat so sparingly during the day that you're famished by the time dinner rolls around? When you skip meals, it's harder to think straight, so you're less concerned about the implications of what you do eat. Try limiting the size of your evening meal so you wake up eager for breakfast. And even if you're not hungry, be sure to eat regularly throughout the day — to help to avoid a diet disaster come dinnertime.
5. You drink your meals. With the ever increasing lattes for breakfast and smoothies for lunch, many of us are drinking our calories away. But these beverages can leave you feeling dissatisfied. The reason? Chewing causes the release of hormones that signal fullness, and solid food is also digested more slowly than liquids. Next time, try a slice of toast with peanut butter — or yogurt with fruit. Just as easy, and far more satisfying. (it's true, I tried doing the slimfast shakes and I'd be hungry again in no time)

The exercise you're doing is great. He's hungry a lot because you have no structure to your eating plan to go along with your exercise plan.
Try The Logic Diet.

eat small meals during the day. dont eat 2 hours before u go to sleep. Remove carbohydrates from your diet (no sugar, bread pm breakfast). Remove fast food and fried stuff from your diet. Drink a lot of water(not coke, pepsi etc.)Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products. Get a bike to ride at home-nobody will see u while at home. After you become slimmer after 2 months, you should go to gym. Im sure there will be instructors willing to create a specific workout plan for you. I think after no more than 5-6 months of having a good diet and exercising, you will be happy with the way you look. :)

you don't have to worry about it. the same thing is happening to me and it's only due to the fact that now you're expending more energy than before. my best advice for you both is this: try to eat fiber-rich foods (like vegetables) in a good amount and you'll feel satisfied for a long time. ahhh... and don't forget to eat this kind of healthy food 6 times a day, 'cause that keeps your metabolism working all the time, so it gets faster instead than lower. best wishes and good luck (and look)!!!

Cheri is correct. Make sure the foods that he is eating does not have high fructose corn syrup. That ingredient fools your brain and makes you think that you are hungry. There is an interesting article at this website about high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils. Meanwhile, keep up the exercise routine. It will take time and discipline but you will succeed if you keep at it.

it may be normal. i'd say have him eat small amounts of food all day. Instead of 3 big meals break it into 6 small meals.. healthy ones of course. & then he wont be so hungry all day because he'd be eating more or it'd seem as though he was eating more but wouldnt be.

My boyfriend is like this too.. alwayyyys hungry. Dont get it.

perfectly normal, his muscles need feeding more because they are more active. He may need either some good protein powder or some protein filled snacks to keep him not only from feeling hungry but to provide his system with what it requires. try myhealthabcmall.com, they have a great range of healthy protein snacks and muscle support products.
