The zodiac killer killed at random, and left few clues. If he had continued taunting the police long enough, they would've caught him.

There was a theory that Ted Kazinski (i.e., The Unabomber) and Zodiac were one and the same. If you google it, you can probably find more info on that.
It might have been debunked by now.
