How do "straightening" conditioners and shampoos work?

This is not a question of how to use them..I know how to do that but what is the product in them that supposedly helps your hair be straight?

They relax the hair folicle which relaxes the tightness of the curl. They don't work that well or at all. I have really curly hair and I saw only a slight difference. I still had to flat iron my hair. The only thing that can really straighten your hair is chemicals.
