What sort of clock? If you just want a simple project that will be fairly easy to build, you can just use a split piece off a large piece of firewood.
Basically you take a large log of firewood and split off an edge piece. You will have bark on one side and a fairly smooth edge on the other. Use a grinder and sander to smooth the face better. It will be curved a little probably, that is ok unless it is curved a lot. Varnish the front once you have it smooth.
Using a router, cut a square in the back (bark side) of the clock (probably do this before varnishing the front). How deep you cut will depending on the length of your movement's shaft, so check that before you start. Drill a hole for the shaft, insert the movement through from the back, put the hands on the front, put the numbers on, and it is done.
You can also use the same method with a disc from a log. Use a chainsaw to cut the disc. Depending on how thick it is, you might or might not have to cut a hole in the back for the movement. The disc would hang on a wall pretty well; if you are using a split piece, it should have enough of a base to stand up pretty well, so you could use it on a desk or mantle.
