I need help with ideas for migraines I have been getting almost every day since I became pregnant 14 weeks ago... I have gotten migraines for over 15 years but never this strong or often. My ob has prescribed Tylenol with codeine, which does nothing. I normally take Fioricet, which my ob feels is too much of a risk. I have still taken it occasionally because I can't handle the pain... it sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't... I am seeing a neurologist in 2 weeks, but that's still a long time to be in this much pain. Does anyone have ideas that I can discuss with my doctor? I know there are risks with many narcotics, etc. during pregnancy, but my life matters, too- I have a 12 month old daughter and a husband that need me, too. I feel I've been neglecting them big time because of this, not to mention being in pain every day is miserable enough to begin with. I don't care if it's Smarties, if it helps take my pain away, I will try anything, please help!

I use cold patches. There is no medicine in them so they are perfectly safe when pregnant. They stick to your forehead and last a good amount of time. You can also take an ice cold wet washcloth and place it where the back of your head meets your neck.
Having my hands or feet rubbed is also helpful to me.
I have heard people speak highly of acupuncture, but I would strongly suggest getting a referal from your OB before trying that.
I know caffine is a taboo when pregant, but a little won't hurt and it might help the tylenol work better. I drink a glass of Coke with my medicine. When you are further along it might be a problem because it will make the baby jumpy.
Make sure you keep an eye on your blood pressure to be safe.

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.

DO NOT GO AGENST THE ADVICE OF YOUR OB! Always ask if a drug is ok to take. I know that your in a lot of pain however I would just recomend relaxing in a dark quiet place or listening to some quiet music. HANG IN THERE
Best of luck to you and your family!

did you give up caffeine or niccotine when you got preg?
Withdrawls could be intensifying the migraines, if you have any cravings give in to them, as long as there not going to harm you or the baby, just dont overdo it.
