If they know that on the Internet everyone can be anything but themselves.I think they should wait until maybe 14, then they can know more respnosibiliy.I got my Myspace at 14 and i also had that whole talk about Internet saftey at that time.I thik Myspace is one of the safest ways to talk on the Internet(other than email)but at the same time it's dangerous.I think it comes up to if they know what goes on in tjhe Internet.

I could answer 'yes because....' or 'no because....' but instead I'll share a story.
My stepdad, or perhaps ex-stepdad, since they're divorced, is a sex offender. Or at least will be, once it all gets through the courts- he hasn't been convicted yet. But I grew up in a house with him, and I know.
Recently, my computer illiterate mom told me that my younger sibs had told her that he [my stepdad] had a myspace account. She didn't ask me to check it out, but that's what I heard, just the same. So I looked him up. His myspace account has links ('my friends' or whatever) to about 30-40 different kids- kids I know, kids that visited my younger siblings all the time. My younger sibs range from 5-16 in age, and their friends are in the same range. My stepdad has been leaving comments on these kids' pages (anything from 'how's it going' to commentary on the kid's new bikini pic). They've been leaving comments on his. His has a nude photo of Paris Hilton, which these kids are being exposed to on every visit. He is gradually learning more about the interests and habits of each child.....will he ever touch another one? Who knows- if they were MY kids, though, I'd certainly want to reduce the risk.
Now, my own kids are ages 5 and under, and are 450 miles away from this evil man. But evil is everywhere. Could my young teen, or child, have a Myspace account? Perhaps. But would I monitor it personally? You bet your......
Cause I know he's out there. And others just like him. And maybe even worse.

Yes, my daughter is 13 and has one, but I monitor it constantly. I believe that under 17 they should have to be set on private, and can not be viewed by people without permission.
Really it is up to the parents to monitor what their child is doing. My daughter can only go on-line on the living room computer, for no longer than an hour at a time, and only when either her dad or I are in the house.
If parents monitor their children, then a lot less of them would be subjected to on-line predators.

I think parents need to be accountable and stop blaming myspace and all for what their teens get into. Don't give a teenager a computer for his/her room. Keep the computer in the family room where it can be monitored. This is not rocket science.

No. What is the need?
There are telephones and cell phones to chat with friends. And if you would like to do it on your computer, e-mail them. What is the point of having a Myspace profile? The only thing that does is offer pedophiles a way to get at the youngsters.

I would question why she would want a public profile. As a prerequisite to my son getting his my space I setup an account for my self and made him add me to his friends list. We both had public profiles and got tons of unsolicited and inappropriate my space mail. He changed his account to private, and then showed me how to update my settings. I just periodically view his page, but I am the only Mom that has a my space account, and his friends think it is pretty cool! PS. his friends have started adding me to their my space friends list. Just monitor and don't be too critical

I believe with parental involvement and supervision they can and should be allowed to. Without that supervision, and unfortunately sometimes inspite of it, many kids can fall into danger by being targeted by people with dubious intentions. The Internet is a great source of entertainment, education and social interaction, but that combination can also be very scarring for kids who aren't taught right from wrong, whatever your right from wrong is. Good luck!

no.. and the only ones who say that its ok are just kids themselves, Myspace is way too adult for sixteen year olds... its annoying to see so many kids on there... they should wait till they are 18, or have a private profile and only keep to their friends
