When a person practices self-denial, they learn to control themselves, patiences, & humility.
They also learn charity for the less fortunate among us.

My life seems to be all about self-denial anymore. Maybe I should give up celibacy for lent, but then it's not entirely my choice to make that happen.

The Holy Spirit won't deceive you - can't deceive you. despite the fact that, so as to have faith in the Mysteries of Christianity, this is had to droop reason. this is a completely diverse count from self-deception. this is in simple terms a threat to droop your theory in reason if the Holy Spirit provides your request to obtain the present of religion. as quickly as you have that, you would be waiting to settle for concerns which will no longer be able to be proved by potential of reason - such as bread and wine being switched over into the physique and blood of Jesus Christ. this might sound confusing to settle for, despite the fact that that's what Christ pronounced to the Apostles. To gray Tower: Your looking can bring about case you follow the link under. it fairly is appropriate to absolutely everyone else who owes it to themselves to discover each and all of the evidence whilst in seek of an pronounced ethical sense. Unbelievers can mock all they like - yet in the top, it ought to have been their determination no count if to discover or no longer, and having explored, no count if to act or no longer. As for examples, properly, this communicate board is packed with people who've perspectives in line with their very own consciences yet who're deceiving themselves spiritually in the event that they think of that they desire do no extra beneficial than place self assurance of their very own uninformed thoughts with out looking further.

Self-denial is a part of distancing oneself from what I believe to be the false Universe. However, it shouldn't go too far; as the Buddha noted, you can go to extremes of denial as well as of gluttony.

I don't practice Lent because it is not biblical and it is demeaning to what Christ did for us (we can not compare to His sufferings by giving up chocolate, etc).
I try to deny the cravings of my flesh (nature) everyday. It's a 24-hour a day job everyday. The flesh is selfish, so I try to deny it because giving in to my nature often gets me into trouble.

it's sacrifice. instead of sacrificing and animal or part of your crop to your diety you give up someting you enjoy for a time. it shows diety that you're serious in what you're saying and your willing to suffer in some way to make whatever your asking for happen
makes sense in this modern age when most people don't have animals or crops

Personally I don't believe God wants our sacrifice, since he gave us the sacrifice (Jesus)
I follow the teachings of scripture (to the best of my ability) and show obedience to his laws in the hopes he will bless me (should he feel compelled). Most of the things outlawed by God according to scripture hurt ones self or others anyway.

None. Why would I want to deny myself?
Self discipline is a different story.
