Sounds like you are an excellant pet owner. You are doing everything I did when I was in the same situation. It takes a while, but in time they will play together just fine. Pretty soon the little one will show a little bit of courage and then the older one will back off.

Nothing you can do to calm their play, anymore than you can tame a tornado! Sound like you don't really have a problem, the puppy hollers, the adult understands that, and before long everything gets adjusted with them, don't worry too much, but keeping an eye on them is a very good idea.

Just observe them at play. Usually you won't have to do anything because older dogs usually wont hurt a puppy, they might nip and growel, but the older dog is just developing a pecking order and diciplining the youngster, just as you might a child.

When you figure that out let me know.. My Min Pin plays rough with my roomies Min Pin she is older but mines bigger, Normaly when they get real rough I just call his name and he stops and leaves her alone but it took a while for him to figure out to stop when I called his name. Now I just need to get him to stop barking when ever someone comes over and is over for awhile.. I think he is over protective.
