My girlfriend suffers from depression and id like to know in what ways does this affect a relationship? I mean when i met her it wasnt so apparent but as time went by the depression showed itself. At first i thought it was me, and my reactions to her moods(although this is still probably true). And i see now how it affects her.......but she doesnt. She knows shes depressed and takes anti-depressants but she doesnt see the way she is, the way she interacts with me and people around her. She can be hostile and can fly off the handle very easily. One day she is great to be around and the next.......quite, remote, like she doesnt wanna know. This is taking its toll on me coz its my first real relationship and i dunno if this is the way things are normally when youre going out with somebody???????? Is it??? I dunno maybe its nothing to do with depression and its that shes just not into me......what do you think???? thanks

I'm guessing you are both fairly young... still living at home, maybe?? As one who suffers daily with depression and its effects on my health, career, marriage and friendships, I wiould first recommend that she (and you, if you're serious about wanting to see her through this) find a therapist -- not just somebody who'll throw medication at her (or you), but somebody who will really listen and that she can trust. (The fact that she trusts you is one of the reasons why her depressive symptoms are now more apparant.. hang on to that trust!!!) The right therapist can take trial and error to find, but it's titally worth it. Every relationship has quirks and areas of compromise; every person is scarred by life in different ways -- so a new realationship is not he answer for you. Stick it out, like the decent person you appear to be from your question....

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Depression Free Method?

First of all I don't believe that you have anything to do with her depression. I also suffer from depression and take meds mine comes down to my childhood and teen years. My suggestion is that you take a good lok at your relationship and figure out what you want and no its not normal to be unhappy . Talk with her tel her what u feel and try to communicate the best way u know how and go from there Good Luck

the answer is not n easy one.
relationships normally help people to be happy.
if she gets depresssed without reason, it cud be a case of mild schizoprenia or similar.the therapist is a good answer.its a good idea for her to realise where she comes from and take treatment early.
u cud be supportive too n help her.after all she good at many times.even a person not suufering from depression cud get mad n easily too.
just give her luv, n see a therapist.in those moments of anger etc. keep yr cool............(thatll help u too)..............n try meditation for both its known to help
n then good luck

I think all those anti-depressants make the problem worse. I have no solution for you.
