Some believe that by the US leaving Iraq now, without a sturdy government infrastructure, military or police that we will giving the go ahead to have an all out civil war.
First of all, I just came home from Iraq and there is a civil war going on there. If you pay attention to the news about how car bombs and suicide bombs are exploding in store fronts and in civilian areas alomst every day, think about how many lives are being lost. The guise is that there isn't a civil war in Iraq right now and if we leave there will be.
There will always be guerrillas and rebels in Iraq. Against the US, against outside influences, against the guys in charge of the country. The Iraqi infrastructure is not based on one ruling body. The people there are divided into tribes, sects, villages and religion. There will always be some one left out and there will always be some one to rebel. Unfortunately it will probably take an iron hand of sorts to rule..... excuse me... to govern the country. I believe that it will unfortunately be that way in the future for Iraq. There will have to be a brute in charge to keep order.
If Saddam Hussein was an allieof the US or one of our allies than he would still be the dictator in Iraq will no worries in the world. Once apon a time he was an allie and thats just how it was. Same cut throat rulership, same regime, same everything except he did what we wanted him to do for us.
Unfortunately the military is in Iraq being the strong hand for a more political force. I will agree that we Iraq needs a strong government with a strong military to back them up. Unfortuantely that would mean that there would be a group essentially without power in Iraq. Which is how it was when Saddam Hussein was in power. The Sunnis had control of Iraq and everyone else did not. How do you please everyone? We can't please everyone anywhere, especially Iraq. This is a conflict that has been going on for decades and we aren't going to resolve it in 3 yrs, 5 yrs, or 10 yrs. So who will? It will be the people or Iraq, sooner or later.
Eventually the demand for the precious oil of Iraq will greatly decline. People all over the world are sick and tired of getting raped at the gas pump and the demand for electric, hybrid and alternative fuels is spilling over. Once outside interest of Iraq dwindles than there wont be super powers on one side of the fence or another. There will be the people of Iraq left to run their country. Hopefully, it won't be a country defined by more blood shed and violence. Rather peace, compromise, indifference and tolerance.
As far as victory for the US.... what is victory? Even better, what is victory in Iraq? If you can answer that question than you have a very bright future in front of you. Victory isn't killing the most people. Victory isn't occupying the most land. Victory isn't who destroys the most cities. So what is victory in Iraq? Who or what can have victory in Iraq?
Think about it....

The way I see it we already have victory we wanted Saddam out and we got it, we may have not got osama, but we will some day. It wont be worse pulling out, it can only be good. Every month we spend more and more money, 5 billion a month, totally rediculous. We get no benefit out of being there but burning a whole in the U.S. taxe payers and economies pocket. I believe we went there for oil but have gotten none of Iraqs oil so its not worth it, iraqi people are dying, U.S. people are dying doesnt make sense. I also believe we went there to help stimulate our ecomony in the recession that occured after the dot com collapse in 2000-2002 or so. Like so many wars before it did help in the beginning to stimulate the economy and provide new jobs but now its just become a drain on the ecomony. Getting out of Iraq can only be good, it will allow us to shift our focus off the war and on to more important things. As far as I am concerned we are even with Iraq. When comparing the death toll of 9/11 and US soldiers of 6000 and a 500 billion dollar debt compared to iraq, to which we completely destroyed there country, economy, leaving the people in some place with out electricity and having to waite for hours to get gas and much much worse, and will eventually no matter what leave it in utter parrel for many years to come. By the way the estimateed death of iraqi civilians is around 60,000 give or take 5,000 people or so. I think that we should take that money and focus it on something else like bring people out of poverty in the U.S. or maybe becoming self sufficient and not depending on outside sources for oil. Like switching to ethanol or other alternative fuel sources that will not only benefit the economy but will help save the world from global warming. Can you imagine if we have spent that 500 billion from the war on becoming self sufficient, in a couple of years from now that could have been completely done. Or we could have given 1,666 dollars to each american instead. Just an incilling on how much money we have spent on the war thus far.

The Iraq war was un called for. Iraq did not constitute a treat to the USA. Yet Iraq did treat the Israelis and the Iranians. Take your pick and answer this simple question was this war for the Israeli lobby or the Iranian lobby?

you can't win a war against abstract concepts. the problem is pulling out and being driven out really go hand in hand. In the eyes of the factions fighting to get rid of us it's a win. The only thing that would save us in the world spotlight is a complete overhaul of our middle eastern policy, and if we left israel to their own devices. As long as there is an oppressive nation of israel there will never be peace in the middle east.

Pulling out is called "defeat." The guerillas are in no way, shape, or form in position to drive the US out of Iraq. Only congress will do that and hand them a defacto victory.

you're an idiot for thiking it's a puppet government, and America would never be driven out of Iraq by Guerillas cuz we kick their butt every time. The retarded libs are the only ones who can defeat us, by shooting us in the back... And the military kicked butt in Vietnam too, but politicians screwed the pooch on that one too...

I still don't understand how we'd be "cutting and running" if the mission is already "mission accomplished"...
But really...the guerillas won't drive us out, it's just a matter of whether we care enough about the situation to stay there...or not.
