I have a drug possession charge that I would like to work off to clean my record. I was able to contact the narcotics division that has jurisdiction over my case and spoke with an investigator. He stated that he would work with me and drop the charge if I purchased dope from local dealers. When I asked if C.I.s are safe he stated that C.Is are the departments liability but that on occasion there are "accidents." WIth that he sent me on my way with a packet of paperwork that explains the process. The problem is I cant understand "lawyerize." Can someone explain the complications that I will encounter? Also I am required to contact the investigator everyday for two weeks and I was given a dollar bill that I have to return to him at the end of the two weeks.
Anyone know why?

that's just wrong...if you were man enough to do what you were doing, you should be man enough to face the consequence of your actions...now if you were doing it because we are a concerned citizen, that's a whole different thing... so what i would suggest to you is, pick your head up, stick your chest out and deal with it... before someone takes your head off, cave's in your chest and you get dealt with...hope this helps...

As a narcotics detective...I'd say you've been given an opportunity to "clean the slate."

The papers you refer to are most likely whats known as a "Memorandum of Understanding" and also a "Release from Liability."

These two documents state the terms of how things will be done. The Memorandum should state that your activities helping the police will provide a specific result. Meaning if you help them...they will help you!

The liabilitiy release is to prevent the agency from incurring the costs should you fall and slip or get hurt while performing assistance. It forces you to provide medical care from your own insurance policy rather than theirs.

Both of these documents are an "industry standard" and nothing, in my opinion is amiss.

Your decision to "make things right" is a personal choice of which you and only you can make. If I had done something illegal to start with...and had been given an opportunity to make things easier upon myself...I'd jump at the opportunity.

None the less....in their interview with you...I'm SURE they told you that you could bring your own attorney with you to verify everything was legitimate.

Best wishes!

If becoming an informant is the only way to clean your record and thats something important to you then thats your right. Just be aware that the liablity form you sign doesn't just protect the department if you fall down, but protects them from being sued by your family if they get you killed. And you have to be aware that if certain drug dealers discover that you are an informant, especially if you are being required to testify, then your life could be in jeopardy.

Wow, money, hash, and a few stash. He quite became loaded. i might get yet another opinion or some suggestions to returned up what this usual lawyer is saying. maybe he has a vested interest in having him as a customer as unfavourable to an informant? additionally, make certain, in line with this offenses and any previous historic previous (if any) what the max sentence he might probably face as against what they are offering.

there is always a risk when informing on anyone for selling and/or buying drugs. it is a risk you should consider carefully. you can be expected to testify in court against someone. returning the same dollar bill at the end of two weeks is to provide proof that you can be responsible and trusted.

Its called finding out if your word means anything and whether you can be depended on. Try doing something right for a change. When you take a shower you need to clean all of the body if you don't want to smell !
