Lately my dog has stopped eating his food. He just picks out a few of the pieces and throws them around the house. He use to eat it so it's not that he doesn't like it. Wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong?

well we think we found the problem. He went #2 finally and it had his blanket in it. This whole time we had thought he was just chewing holes in it but he obviously has been eating it also! thanks for your help

The first place to start would be with a vet to see if the dog has developed a problem. Then look at the food your feeding. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. I agree, first try changing the brand of food. You get canned food and mix them together, so your dog can have more of a taste. But dogs usually know what they're doing. My dog didn't eat for a week one time, and it turned out that he just ate something bad and it needed to get out of his system. Then he ate like normal again.
But if you notice physical changes in his behavior, like affecting his movement then you should take him to a vet.

If it's dryfood, try adding a couple teaspoons warm water into it an mix alittle, or you can try adding a tablespoon of can dogfood in with it, just to get it eating better, if that doesn't help, you may try changing it's brand of food, I had too.
Keep notice if he has a warm dry nose too, he may not be feeling good

have you recently started giving people food to him? If so, he just wants that instead. Dogs wont starve themselves unless something serious is wrong. If you haven't changed food for about 6 months or so it would be safe to introduce something new, maybe he's just tired of it.

Go to the vet. ASAP. If your dog isn't eating, there could be something seriously wrong. Make sure he is drinking!

He could have an oral disease--my cat had oral cancer, and by the time we found out he could barely take a drink of water...
Or it could be something intestinal--another cat had to have surgery when his urine crystalized in his intestines...so if your dog's not going to the bathroom like he should TAKE HIM TO THE VET NOW!!!!!!!!
Is he older? He could also have some bad teeth or a gum disease that makes it hurt when he eats.
Have you tried giving him soft (canned) food?

well if you started giving him like table scraps then he might just want that instead of his dog food but if not you should try switching dogfoods and if that still doesnt work you should take him to the vet to see whats wrong.

Some dogs tend to be picky eaters - try changing food brands. Also make sure you exercise your dog daily for at least 30 mins... it could be stress... I mean, you know your dog better than most.
