Carry a hand cream in your bag wherever you go, and apply it regularly, especially when your hands are feeling dry. Neutrogena, Garnier, Cutex, Natio and Ecotanicals all have really great hand creams.
Also, at night, when you go to bed, apply the cream very thickly, massage it in, and then put on a pair of cotton gloves. Keep them on while you sleep. That will help the moisturiser absorb, rather than just rub off.
If you wash your hands a lot, use a soap free hand wash, as soap can dry out your skin, and apply your hand cream immediately after washing your hands. Washing your hands dries out your skin like nothing.
Good luck.

I use a scrub that I make myself. I take a bit of brown sugar and regular sugar (probably about 1/2 tsp total) and then pour honey on it until I get a good consistent paste. You can also put orange peel and cinnamon (as well as other yummy smelling things) or coffee grounds. Then, when my hands are dry, I take the paste and scrub the hell out of my hands (but not so hard that I hurt myself!) paying close attention to really rough spots and around my nail beds. Then I wash it off and follow with a really moisturizing lotion, like Aveeno. You can also try sleeping with moisturizer under gloves, but it helps to exfoliate first so the moisture can penetrate the skin better.

My mom is a nurse and has to wash her hands repeatedly all day so they would get very rough and crack. I bought her these gel gloves from Bath and Body Works for her birthday. They work wonders.

Just lotion your hands (Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion works well) and put on the gloves before you go to bed. I suggest doing this last because its very hard to do other things with the gloves on.

Another thing you could try, that I personally do, is scrub your hands with a loofah or a soft foot stone. Lotion is key though.

I'm not selling the stuff, but for me, the Satin Hands kit from Mary Kay works wonders. You can also make your own: use plenty of vaseline and massage into hands. Then, without removing the vaseline first, add a body scrub (St. Ives or something like that). Continue massaging. Wash it off with a gentle soap or shower gel. Afterwards, use a very rich hand cream with an SPF and your're good to go. HTH!

my hands get rough too. I have tried these and they work really well. My favorite is Aquaphor (from Eucerin) which you can use all over your body. i put it on at night and so when you wake up in the morning, your skin will be all soft and smooth. Not only does it moisturize dry, cracked, or irritated skin but it also protects minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. my doctor recommended this to me. After a shower or bath, put on baby lotion. That is recommended to help. Wash your hands with Milk Protein and Honey soap from Softsoap or with soap that contains lotion.

Sounds crazy, but use a foot scrub. Hand scrubs are made but if your hands are as dry as you say then you may benefit from a foot scrub better. Then apply a very thick and creamy lotion (Victoria's Secret) or baby oil and use a parafin wax. The parafin wax machine is only about $30.00 at Wal-Mart and the supply last about a month. The heat in the parafin wax will absorb the moisture in the lotion.

My hand used to be very rough also, I scubbed them with this St. Ives apricot scrub then used St. Ive's whipped silk lotion before I went to bed and covered my hands with this white cotton gloves you can get at any drug store that is meant to hold lotion in. In about a week my hands were much softer.

SSS Replenishing Hand Cream from Avon has such a silky feel to it. You'll love it!
But if they're extra dry (perhaps washed a lot?) Then also check out Avon's Moisture Therapy Hand Cream. It will do the trick!

Use a lotion with cocoa or shea butter. They also have medicated scentless lotions you can try that work really well. Try Proclaim Cocoa Butter Lotion, Udderly Smooth Udder Cream, Eucerin Dry Skin Therapy Original Moisturizing Lotion, Cetaphil Therapeutic Barrier Cream, or Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. Just to name a few.

Besides using moisturizing lotion on them after each hand washing, I apply vaseline to them at least once a week & wear a pair of old cloth gloves at night to keep the moisture in. They are nice and soft in the morning. I do this with my feet also using an old pair of socks.
