Look at your bad habits.
Are you cynical?
Are you sarcastic?
Do you gossip?
Find the one bad habit that hurts your relationship with God the most.
Work on that bad habit during Lent and then when Lent is over keep working on it.

If someone wants to observe lent and privately do something extra, fine. As long as that extra does not translate into an expectation for others to follow.
Shoudn't we maintain a distinction between the essentials that the bible teaches and what people have added?
Let's be careful not to redefine the concept of being saved by faith alone by drawing attention to the extras.

I spend at least three hours of each day in the church meditating and reading scripture.

thats stupid.... as the bible never talks about taking a task or giving up chocolates e.t.c
A christian is sopposed to fast! period.

fasting and abstinence. we are not suppose to tell that we are fasting and abstaining from something. it's just between you and God who should know what you are giving up for him.
