I am buying a Siberian husky and I am getting one dog for free. I am not sure if a small dog and Siberian husky will get along. The previous owner of the husky told me that Huskies play rough. But, because the dog is going to be alone a lot during the days, I have to give the Husky a buddy to play with. Could you give me your truly honest opinions and informational details?

Of course!! You just have to let them meet for a couple of minutes each day, making sure they are both on a leash. Then you can gradually let them do their own thing, but still making sure to supervise them. Pay attention to their tails- if both their tails are wagging, it's a good sign. Just remember, they have to get to know eachother first, just like people.

This is how I did it with my German Shepard and my husband's Pit Bull. My mom also had a Bichon, (which is a small dog) and they all love playing with eachother. Just don't forget to give them time. Don't force one dog on the other.

Good luck!

Small Siberian Husky

It depends on the husky and the small breed. If both dogs want to be the dominent dog you may have problems. For people saying huskys are always friendly, not true. Siberian Huskys are on the health and human services most dangerous dog list due to contributing to the most human deaths. I have a very nice siberian husky, but she was living with my sisters female husky and they fought to the extent we had to go to the emergency vet. I now have my husky and a black lab and they get along great, it all depends on how the dog is raised, my sisters is very aggressive towards people and dogs. I take my dog to the dog park where she socializes with many breeds, she has gotten in a few small fights with other female dominent dogs, the dogs i watch her closely with are female chows, malamutes, and other female huskys. She will also warn dogs once if they hump her (shes spayed) 2nd time she growls. My point of this long answer, spend some time with both dogs, make sure you know their personalities and behaviors before leaving them alone and they are likly to be great friends like my 13 yr old black lab and 4 yr old husky.

I know a family with a dachshund, a Husky, and a black Lab. They all get along, but I know that the dachshund sometimes needs "stress breaks". Just staying over at a dog-free/large-dog-free house for a night or 2, or getting to go places to visit without bringing the other dogs along seems to keep the small dog happy.

A lot of it probably depends upon the nature of your small dog. And just make sure the Husky gets lots of exercise. That should keep him a little calmer, which will likely save the smaller dog some grief from being jumped/stepped on if the large dog gets hyper.

The Husky may play rough, but he is a pack dog. By nature, he gets along with other dogs. I have five dogs of all sizes and they get along very well. The small dog may feel intimidated at first, but I wouldn't worry too much.

Unless they're both females - I've found that females don't get along together as well as two males or a male and a female. I guess that's why they call them bitches! Haha.

Nope. Even if the husky turns out to have zero prey drive, flattening a small dog in play is all to real a possibility. Siberians have high prey drive. Small dogs are toys until they run, they they're targets.

I am familiar with huskies and I would say that they are one of the
most passive breed of dogs in the world. If the husky and the
small breed live together then the two georgious mutts will have
a very happy and playful time together. I have a logic about dogs.
There is no breed of dog, that has ever been bred to kill, or to be mean. Theyare taught to be that way. If you teach your dog to be mean, it will be. If you teach your dog to be nice, it will be. Dogs,
like people, only know, what they are taught in their upbringing.
Consequintly, if you teach your children to be rude and obnoxious,
they will be. Please have a happy life and teach your teachables
only the best and good things that life has to offer.

yes, siberian huskies love to play, Dogs tend to know how rough to play with another dog no matter the size. They usually play according to how the other dog is playing. If the small dog is hyper and plays rough so will the huskie, and vice versa.
