First of all, if you are hitting with the side of your foot, you are doing the kick wrong. You are over rotating. The impact surface of the kick is the bottom of your foot. Think about having a straight line from your foot to your shoulder when you hit the target. You should be able to look down your leg and see the target. Think back kick to an area a foot in front of your target, turn your hip so the bottom of your foot goes through the target and then set your foot down. This kick is fairly strong when it is done correctly.

As far as getting dizzy, how many times are you kicking? 10, 20 times or more? You will get dizzy. Turn your head as quick as possible around to see the target and you body will follow. No matter how many times you practice this kick, eventually you will get dizzy. That is why this isn't the best kick for self defense

Any kick that is above the waist or you lose sight of your target isn't really a good kick for the street. EVERY martial art has techniques that aren't really suited for street defense. So when people say Tae Kwon Do is useless, don't believe them. I will admit some techniques aren't designed for street defense, but some can be used very effectively. Some TKD kicks are even used in the UFC. Good luck. E-mail me if you have any more questions that I can help you out with.

This is why I cant see the point in TKD. fancy sh!t that even if able to be performed, wont be any good. maybe this frustration of yours is a sign to move on to something else.

TKD practitioners seem to have this "I can do a mean 540 kick and waste you" mentality, which is flawed.

dont believe me, well I want to hear stories (real ones) of how you used these fluffy kicks in real life (not against your drunk sister either).
I know from my experience that simple and direct attacks work sweet. why the hell do you want to be the best show off, at the cost of survival?

twist your hips more and turn with more speed and the kick will feel more natural and stronger (make sure you look first! lol)

when twisting keep your eyes on your opponent until the last possible second and then quickly turn your head to the other side and look at your opponent again. focussing on one point reduces dizziness.
I hope i helped! good luck with the kick

you don't do low percentage high risk kicks.

even if such a move is devastating if it lands- if you can't land it, or only land it "rarely" and if you don't you are at risk or in bad position- what good is it?
