My son is going to be five in April. He has been off the diapers during the day since he was 3, but at night it's a different story. We tried many times, but he sleeps so soundly that he will not notice a wet pajama and that means he could sleep in a wet bed for hours. I am ok with giving him a diaper at night, but I am starting to worry... my doctor said not to worry until he's at least six, but he's so good during the day! Never an accident, and he's very depressed about the diapers at night. What to do?

My daughter wore pullups until she was about 8. She was and still is a sound sleeper.

Just tell your son it's not his fault. He's not doing anything wrong, it is something he will get better control of as he gets older.

I got my daughter up at least twice during the night and took her to the bathroom. Most times she never even woke up!

It's frustrating and messy, but just remember he's not doing it on purpose. Limit but don't remove all drinking at night. Could you imagine going to bed very thirsty and not being able to have a drink? I let my daughter sip drinks at night. I told her it was OUR plan to try to get through the night without wetting the bed. She could work with that.

Let your son be in on the plans you want to try to stop the problem. Sucess will be much sweeter for him if you do.

Sounds just like my first. He's still a very deep sleeper. Kids can wet until 8 or 9 before you should start worrying (I know easier said than done).

If your son is having issue with the diaper maybe try this - have him go before bed, then before you go to bed get him up to go again. This worked for our son. He went to bed around 7pm and then between 10 and 11pm we got him up to go again and then he made it the rest of the night and we were able to toss the diaper.

I know everyone is different, but this worked for us. Good Luck.

I am in the same situation - I have a 4 yr old that wets the bed at night and it makes him up set to have to wear diapers. I have him wear pull ups at night time that way if he does wake up to go it is easy for him and he doesn't mind pull ups like he does diapers.

I dont think you need to worry really. My son was 9 and still wearing a nite time diaper. It was a similar situation to your son, He slept so soundly dynamite couldnt wake him. I had him checked and there was nothing wrong it was just something that took time. They now have pullups and other such things to make it easier and less embarrasing to older kids. When my son was young all that existed was diapers. Dont make a big deal of it and give your son plenty of reassurance . he and you will be fine.

I think that all depends on the kid. Pulls up cost to much. It cheaper it have them just wear diapers at night till thay stop wetting the bed at night. It much less work then washing sheet every night.

There are lots of kids who are like that. They do eventually outgrow it but I think you should do some things too. No fluids after a certain time. Only water after supper too. Wake him up once during the night and make him go pee. I know it's an inconvenience but you should get him to void. I've known kids who did this up to ages of 7 or 8. They do outgrow it eventually.

Your situation is almost identical to mine with my son, who will be five in July. He actually stopped wetting at night until his brother was born, then reverted.

What we did that worked, and what we will likely try to do again, wasn't easy, but it was effective.

For one week, we would wake him up 2-3 times per night to take him to the bathroom. After one week, and another week with wet beds for the most part, he stopped wetting his bed almost completely.

We have all seen the "Goodnight commercials" And those children are wearing them at night and they are 7 and 8 years old. Some kids just sleep to sound. no offence but when he turns 8 then you can start to worry.

Reassure him that he is a big boy and accidents happen. It is fine for a child to have to wear diapers at night until they are ready not to. I also think they make "big kid" nighttime underwear/pull-ups. That might not make him feel so bad about having to wear something to prevent accidents. Just give him as much reassurance as you can.
