we are starting Lent a christian gives up something for 20 days.( I think) like, sweets, drinking alcohol,swearing,anything you might think would be hard to normally.Let me read some good answers.

Lent is 40 days. It lasts until Easter. What I don't get is why it is okay to break the vow at Saint Patrick's day!
I am Anglican. Some Anglicans observe Lent others do not. I really don't, down deep I think I have the faith but not the religion, if that makes sense.

Not all Christians celebrate Lent. My Family don't celebrate Lent because it's a Catholic ritual which we are not Catholic. We don't believe in giving up something for 6 weeks or 8 weeks prior to Easter. We Should instead think of something to give for good not just temp.

Lent is twice as long as that. And I gave up theism for Lent a long time ago. It worked really well. I'm sticking with it!

We have all given up alcohol in our household. Thought lent was for 40 days.
