This is not a fact. Your sandwich is the same size no matter how you slice it. It's possible that it seems smaller in your mind as the corner bites may not be full bites, but your sandwich has the same mass and size no matter which way you drag the knife across it.

Slightly, but not so much that you'd notice it...assuming the bread is square...
You're probably reacting to the different dimensions--whereas it might take two bites to get all the way across (from the cut edge to the top or bottom) of a horizontal sandwich, it only takes one on the corners of a diagonal sandwich, so it appears that your sandwich is disappearing faster.
Go back to horizontal...you'll get a few crumbs more, and you'll feel better!

Unless you're using some odd sort of knife... I don't see how any of the sandwich could be "lost" no matter how you cut it. I think diagonal cut makes it look much nicer, and personally I prefer eating them that way... I think they just fit in your mouth better or something?? But the sandwich is still the same size.

I think one half of the sandwich is probably smaller thank the other half since the top of the bread isn't even (might be curved). Unless you have the white bread that is completely square then both portions should be the same size. BUT, like everyone else said, you will still have the same amount of sandwich no matter how it's divided.

Well i am sure you get less sandwich but i doubt it is anyting you would notice. when you cut through the bread the knife removes a small portion of the sandwich, when cutting diagonally you cut through more of the sandwich therefore removing more of the meal.

A bit of geometry will demonstrate that you don't actually "lose" anything.
The pointy bits on a diagonally-cut sandwich are easier to bite off, and may give the impression that the sandwich is somehow smaller.
It's all in your head! (And mouth!)
Best wishes!

That's like saying that getting change for a dollar in dimes is less then getting quarters because they are smaller.
If you eat a 4 ounce sandwich cut in diagonals, or pureed, you have eaten 4 ounces unless you start counting the crumbs.

If it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck it is still a duck . Your sandwich shape makes no difference at all . The volume of the sandwich remains the same . It is simply one of those mind over matter ordeals in wich the truth is ,,,,,,,,,It really doesn't matter .

no. you are not losing anything. there is absolutely no difference in area, as the amount of sandwich that is smushed by the knife is the same no matter what direction you cut it.

no unless you cut out a portion of the sandwich, it just looks different when cut at different angles.
