yank has never bothered me or anyone that i know. perhaps you've just come across some jerks that need to lighten up a bit?

Disparaging terms for people of other cultures or nationalities are thoughtless and demonstrate a lack of understanding and intellect. Whether applied by Americans or by citizens of any other nation on earth, these "tags" stir up and emphasize differences rather than similarities.
I've never thought of "Yank" as an offensive term...I've served with RAF blokes on two continents...they would give me a firm slap between the shoulder blades and say, "have another pint Yank!" --usually they were purchasing the pint <
Call me Yank anytime you want my friend!

Not really. Besides, usually the only people who don't like being called yanks are from the South because the word has a different meaning to them than it does to the British.

I've heard a lot worse than Yank...lol...I know a lot of these names, but I'm not going to use them. I guess I can see how a southerner might dislike being called a yank, but I don't mind. It's better than being called a Cracker or a Klansman.

Ahahaha!! << see, I do have a sense of humor, I found THIS question funny...
But anyways, I highly doubt America is the only country that has alternative terms for people of other races. And I think you'll find some of the most well known comedians in the world come from America, so, yeah. Don't think we're ALL fat, stupid, and dull... [at least our food isn't dull].

It's all the same w/different countries, I think it just matters whom you approach with the names - if they're your friends, then they know who you are and won't get offended as much, if not, then you really don't know them well enough and shouldn't joke in a way you know could possibly hurt their feelings. Either way, I try to stay away from name-calling of any level because you never know what kind of a day someone is having.

You can call me a Yank all you want, it don't bother me..Maybe I have a sense of humor. OK, now that we are good friends, go down to the pub, get your best ale and send it over... That's what good friends do for each other...I'm serious..

I don't have a name for anyone from any country except Mexico, and that's mostly because 60% of my friends are Mexican. I call them beaners and they call me a stupid white girl, lol!
Frankly I couldn't care less if someone called me a yank.

We just refer to people as what they are (i.e. British, Chinese, Japanese, Italian...). I'm just not sure what "Yank" is supposed to mean and if it is a bad thing. Plus it is kinda old-fashioned.
