It completely depends on where you live and sometimes even the school. Here, we have no F's and a D is failing. But I saw a school website just the other day where they did have F's and D's, but a D was a fail anyhow. Usually a D is considered a warning: better improve or you'll fail!

Usually we go by percents:
Highschool:
92%-100% A
83%-91% B
74%-82% C
65%-73% D
64% and below is an F
College is a few percents different :
90%-100% A
80%-89% B
70%-79% C
60%-69% D
59% and below is an F

Technically, "F" is the failing grade. However, "D" is considered "unacceptable." So, for all intents and purposes, a D is a VERY bad grade.
In most schools, F means that you have to retake the class. D means that you've passed (meaning you don't need to retake), but you did very poorly in it.
Colleges do not like to see any D's.

No, F (or N in my school) is the failing grade. D is almost failing, it is one level above being failed.
P.S. GO HOMESCHOOLING!!

Hello. I attended a Christian school in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th (I graduated in 10th) grade and I homeschooled in 3rd and 5th grade, and the cirriculum that I used, we couldn't get below a "C", and if we did, we had to redo that portion of our cirriculum. In most homeschooling agencies and Christian schools, "D" is a failing grade. Hope this helps!

No, an "F" means you fail the class. A "D" is still bad, but you still pass.

f stands for failing, d is one step up, meaning you barely passed. what happens when you get into real life and someone tells you failed at something? if you don't know what failure is how will u face it?

Even a home schooled student should know the answer to that. Aren't you graded?

No, an F is the one that means you failed and that you have to retake it.
