My boss sort of hinted of their forthcoming 15th wedding anniversary and I need suggestions on what is a good gift, not too expensive, gitf that won't look like it is "kiss-up" type, but just a friendly and at the same time professional gift for them. They are very close to me on a personal level also, not just work. Thanks.

Crystal is the traditional 15th wedding anniversary gift....a crystal vase, candlesticks, figurine, etc.

Boy that really takes the cake.. hinting to a subordinate for an anniversary gift! Even if you are a personal friend.. who hints for that kind of thing? I don't give my friends or relatives anniversary presents except for silver or golden anniversaries, and those are usually at family celebrations. Then a nice card and a bottle of wine or flowers is about it.

Your Context style of Contradicts Itself There, (re: kiss up vs understanding them heavily on a private point.) Get them a present day voucher to an interest they are able to the two do mutually (something from bungi leaping to an afternoon spa)

Gift certificate to dinner at one of their favorite restaurant works. Its not too 'butt-kissy' but personal enough to let them know that you appreciate them on a personal level.

how about paying for a couples massage for the two of them? If it is too expensive perhaps some friends or coworkers would be interested in going in on it too.
