if so, can you live on them, and where to start looking

I know it seems silly, kind of a dumb question, because if someone new about them they would be charted on a map somewhere.

I am just looking for a place to be able to see for myself what it would be like to live on my own on an island.

That is if I manage to get through eight consecutive years of army duty.

There are no major islands that have not yet been charted. There are areas mapped out that have not been visited by man (jungles of Borneo, Indonesia, etc.). Also, there are countless small uninhabited islands in the Pacific. Uninhabited is not the same as uncharted though... People generally know the islands are there. They are just so small or so remote that nobody lives there. If you want a real survival experience, you can definitely try some of those. Just don't forget a backup emergency plan in case everything goes wrong. Something as simple as a GPS beacon and a timetable for expected contact to confirm you're still okay could save your life if you do have an accident...

They may have used up their answering limit for the day and wanted to leave a mark of appreciation for the awesome and interesting question. You know how when you're at your limit, you don't really have another way of showing your interest. Good thing that star is there. I did that once. I marked it as interesting so the next day when I got more chances to answer, I could go and answer the question. Hope that helped. :)

Sure there are. Some are just not significant enough to be charted or way off the normal trade route to be of consequence. In Asia, many countries have numerous islands that may be named but are uninhabited. Look at Philippines and Indonesia. Between them, they have 20,000 over islands and oly their biggest ones are populated. So if you like and can live off the land, I an sure you can find one in these countries.

Just make sure you have a speed boat to take you out if there ever is a tsunami or cyclone or typhoon. You may be drowned!
