Before you go to a doctor, pl. try to destress through breathing, yoga, exercise etc. and also by taking B vitamins. Look at this:
http://floweressencesintro.onlinecourse.com/ for a free online course on Bach Flower Essences. Look at Mustard, Gentian and Gorse etc., and see which fits your needs. The Flower essences are gentle and are generally safe and side effect free. Good luck.

First of all, you need to know that I am a health professional but NOT in the mental health field. But, I have known lots of patients, friends, and family members who have struggled with depression. And, feel depressed, myself, sometimes. Depression can be fought in many ways. To a certain extent, you have to find your own way of dealing with it. And, I believe that we all are depressed some times. For me, I find that exercise helps a lot. When you exercise, the body produces endorphins and those chemicals are natural anti-depressants. Eating healthier food helps too. One thing that depresses me is my struggle with weight...so eating better, healthier foods helps fight the weight problem and therefore the depression. Is your depression profound? By that I mean are you depressed to the point of thinking about hurting yourself? If so, PLEASE seek immediate professional help. (if money is a problem, free mental health clinics should be available in your area) Your family doctor can prescribe mild anti-depressants for you too. If you are a religious person, you might find that reading some literature from your religion might help. (ex. I am a Christian and reading uplifting verses from the bible helps me)

This could be a symptom of losing your Joy. Have you allowed stress to steal your Joy? Or, did you give it away. It normally doesn't dissapear on it's own, you choose how you handle situations, you also choose where your Joy ends up.
This may sound over simplifed, but it is true. The Bible says that the Joy of the Lord is our Strength. If you give yours away, how one earth are you going to be strong enough to fight off the spirit of depression? Take back your Joy, and resume your life!
The Joy of the Lord will be my strength,
I will not falter, I will not fade.
For He is my shelter,
I am not afraid,
The Joy of the Lord is my Strength!

determine what is stressing you out or who. Then employ what we call coping skills. Either stay away from what is stressing you, take some quiet time on your own, play music you enjoy, or sports/exercises. It generally works. Also tell yourself you are important to you
