Just imagine that there are a large group of muslim women all wrapped up in those outfits where only the eyes can be seen (sometimes this is partly covered too). Isn't that a form of objectification? I mean, no personality can be seen through those robes, no emotion, no individuality. In a crowd you'd be just another muslim women, someone wife but not an individual, just a shrouded silhouette of a person, no characteristics. It's like a uniform. Why not throw off your veils and taste the sweet air of freedom?

Well my modesty shows a huge amount of personality, in fact I stand out more than anyone in my high school. I normaly wear jeans and a long loose tunic up to or before my knees and a matching scarf. Today im wearing black pants, a dress, and a denim jacket and a scarf. Is there something wrong with wearing loose clothing and covering your hair? Why do you hate modesty? I want to practice my religion because believe in it with everything that I have. Can you not relate? Do you not have something that you trust in and understand? I am free. Most of my life I did not wear a scarf, was I free then? the answer is no, in case you didnt know where i was going with that. I feel so much better now, im more respected, more outgoing, happier, and unique. I have my own beliefs, my own ideas and my own image. I feel more free more beautiful in every way. Its laughable that you would think we blend in. I don't feel the need to show skin and my body even though the society has given women a certain impossible image set in stone. we dont care if we dont look like supermodels, we dont care for attention from guys, we dont have that worry and that stress of constantly trying to live up to that. why would a random stranger deserve to see your beauty? They need to see our minds and personality. my physical beauty is saved for my family, other women, children, and my friends
If we are happy and free without walking around with tight jeans and skin tight midriff baring shirts with our chest falling out then why not let it be?

Atleast we wont develop eating disorders.

Peace

First of all, mainstream Islam does not require a woman to cover her face. The body has to be covered except for the face and hands.

Secondly, as a person who wears a head veil, I DO portray a distinct personality, plus emotions and individuality. Wearing a scarf allows people to recognise and appreciate me for who I am as a person (i.e. personality, emotions and individuality) rather than how I look.

Muslim women who wear veils that completely cover their faces are wearing it because of the country they live in, and has nothing to do with Islam.

Poor guy you do not even know the proper outfit of teh muslim women. According to the quran it is coverage of teh body so it will not show but the face and teh palms should show so the character is there. the type of veil you are talking about is a tradition but not in the quran and this is why in the holiest place to muslims which is mecca women during pilgrimage should not cover their faces. Their is no uniform we are free to wear whatever colours and designs we want provided they are not transparent nor tight. We are breathing very good air don't worry.

Freedom is given to everyone but how you defined freedom is the other thing. It is really an honour for a women to wear the hijab and to cover her body before GOD especially and also before men as a keen of utterly respect for them and it distinguished them as a woman of gracious, humble and honouring the chasity of themselves!! These women who wear hijab prevents sins from being make from both sexes as well and make society abit better place.Remember sometimes in the Middle East, not all the doings of ppl there follow the Quran or the sayings of the Prophet (P.B.U.H), but merely traditions of their generations which sometimes contradict what the Quran says. So its up to us to jugde fairly and study it carefully to distinguised which is which.

Issaq,
I wear the hijab, and Insha ALLAH will be wearing niqab and abaya soon because it is ordained in my religion and it is ordered by ALLAH and is in a strong Hadith that the Prophet Muhammed(PBUH*) wrote. I wear the traditional Muslim dress for women because it makes me free. Too many western women are prided on their bodies and looks. They are degraded day after day by models, tv commercials, and music videos. They are pressured into showing off and pleasing strange men. As a Muslim woman when I wear traditional women dress I feel secure and safer than I did when I wasn't a Muslim. Yes people stare and make snide commets behind my back but I don't let that bother me because to me they are the ones lost and I am fearful of ALLAH so much that I would rather die than be exposed to men other than my husband and his family. Muslim men respect me for my mind and not my body. Western women pity me because they think I am oppressed. I don't want to be raped or lusted after like a slab of meat so I cover to protect myself and because I respect and fear my Lord ALLAH. I also know that by not flouncing my charms and hiding my beauty from men other than my husband that I am getting good credit from ALLAH. Please don't judge me or any of my sisters on what the media tells you. We are human beings as well however we have a thing about modesty.

In islam there are no Freedom or Free will. If you become muslim there is no way out except dead thread. Also in Islam there is too many discrimination against women.
In most of the muslim country, there are too many rape happen but there is no justice at all because any rape case must have 4 witneses. Do you think in this world there are any stupid people that rape a girl infront of 4 person.
Also man can have 4 wife by many excuses.

I am not a Muslim woman, but I am friends with many of them. That is the point of the veil: equality. They are equal: no pretty women, no ugly women, just women.

Some of them wear it out of comfort. They like being stealthy ^^ and it gives them an edge because they cant be judged depending on their looks.

Some of them wear it because of peer pressure.

Some of them wear it cause they think it looks good, you know colorful and lady like.

And some, just wanna make God happy instead of worrying about the codes of their environment.

No one knows the intention and no one should bother themselves with it..since its only a "uniform" like u said..

Do I bother with your clothes?
