Well, it goes against MAN'S law. There are many things in the bible that are "outdated" by today's standards. Now, I suppose if you'd like to be one of many women sharing one man - you can make you're own decision. But make sure you understand, the man you're marrying has decided to follow the bible or parts of it that satisfy his wants and desires. Thus the multiple wives, and the wife is subservient, etc. That's the only reason I could imagine for beliefs like that. It certainly isn't good for the wife (wives) they are stuck with several other women and multiple children, they do the housework, take care of kids, and are completely subservient to the male head of the household. I could also assume "they" won't leave polygamist alone because they are marrying 13 year old girls, children. They are being "sold" off to marriage because their families can't afford to feed so many kids produced by several wives.

When the inhabitants of the earth were few God allowed this in Old Testament times.
But we are know longer few . Wedlock from God's perspective, a covenant between a man and a women that binds them together for life. God performed the very first marriage in Eden, and Jesus sanctioned marriage by being present at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. In Jewish law and culture, there were two stages in marriage:)betrothal and 2)the ceremony of the husband taking the bride to his home.

The polygamists in the Bible weren't supposed to be polygamists, that was never God's plan. It was culturally acceptable. Lying is common now, but it still violates the ten commandments as much as murder.

Good point. Funny how having multiple partners and extra/pre-marital relations is ok, but having multiple spouses like all the prophets in the Bible did...isn't ok. Especially when they give the Bible as their reason for it...

you're also suppose to love everyone and 'man without sin cast the first stone' and Jesus didn't judge people of race or sex in the bible, but wait! in some parts he did?....gees, a little contradicting/hypocritical/and yet beautiful piece of work that little bible is, huh?

The New Testament does not allow for it. Moreover, the laws of the land do not allow for it.
