In the baseketball game what does "from the top of the key" mean?

MAYBE IF YOU ASKED IN THE BASKETBALL SECTION. it would help

but to answer yo question...top of the key is basically the three point line area DIRECTLY behind the free throw line...looking right at the hoop

There is a cirle surrounding the free-throw line. The 3-point line meets the top of that circle, or key. The top of the key looks directly at the basket.

the box that the players stand during a free throw is the key the top is just outside the circle arc where the player stands when shooting free throws
