Talk to him.
If he likes you then he's probably been wondering the same thing and will be pleased you talked to him. You can then move on the the next step.
If he doesn't like you then you can stop wasting time agonising over the uncertainty.
The longer you leave it, the worse it gets.

you keep his interest but you do not bug him or get in his way, just be patient
