Boyfriend had an accident and went to the ER, they said to apply for medicaid but it turns out hardly anyone is eligible. What other programs are there for low-income people over 21 and NOT pregnant?

Well, if it's an emergency, they CAN NOT turn you down, regardless if you can pay or not....that is federal law......and you can sue them big time. An emergency is basically defined as a danger to life, limb, or eye. So if you don't have an emergency, all they're required to do is to perform first aid, and send you to another place that would accept you, like a county hospital. Unless there is some county program, I believe medicaid is it. Best of luck to you.

depends on where you live. Have you tried any county hospitals, cause they are usually the ones that know. That's the bummer of working poor in America, enough to just about survive, as long as nothing happens. Hospitals will garnish checks, I know that. But, also they'll usually work out some sort of payments.

Some towns have county welfare insurance through the local health department. Get in touch with them many more people qualify for that who do not qualify for medicaid.
