If so..... would it be a sin to use that salt in some soup and eat it?

Yes God did turn Lot's wife into a pillar of salt. Genesis 19 1-29. Sodom and Gomorrah were being destroyed. The angels lead them away from the city and told them not to look back. Since angels are messengers from God she was disobeying God when she looked back. It was not because she looked back, it was because she longed to stay in a place that was so sinful and perverse.

Why wouldn't the god of the Xians turn a person into salt just for looking the wrong way?

Yes and you know why? Lot's wife sinned, and to demonstrate that she sinned, God turned her into something sinful because it's used to line margarita glasses.
That is proof positive that the Bible is accurate.
