The sad simple truth is that there's isn't much you can do. He probably said those things because he felt hurt that you were voicing your disappointment in him, and he was lashing out at you. Which makes him immature, which sounds about right if you feel he isn't being a good father to you. You can't make him grow up or grow responsibilities, so your best bet is to think of another male family member as your 'Dad' and look to him for guidance on how a MAN should be. I am very sorry that your Dad is such a bum.

I know that must have hurt you very deeply. We can pick our friends but we cannot pick our relatives. The best thing for you to do is understand down deep in your heart that he is the problem not you. You should strive to be a good person and let your father serve as a good "bad example". Learn to be a good parent yourself by learning from his mistakes.

I am a father myself. My wife and I have two sons. We always wanted to have a daughter, too but it just never happened. Now we have a beautiful granddaughter. She is so precious it is difficult to understand how anyone could be mean to a daughter.

Your father's job is to love you with all his heart. You are a gift to him. A beautiful treasure. It is his loss that he dose not realize that.

Be a wonderful person and when you have children give them love and attention. Be the parent you wish you had and that will eliminate any negativity your father has caused in you.

Pray for him. Someday he may realize his foolishness. You never can tell. Forgive him for being less that a true man. Who knows what baggage he is still carrying around from his childhood.

Its very sad to have heard something from a father. But some one who can afford to say something like this to his child, should not deserve to have the status of a father. You should leave him. But before you leave, i'd suggest you write him a letter saying how he hurt you and why you are disconnecting the relation with him. Send a copy to your mom or some nearest ones such as siblings if you have.

I wish you strength!
