It's a 6:00 p.m. wedding and her bridemaids are wearing black dresses. While shopping for dresses, all the ones I find I really like are black! What should I do?

I would just ask the bride but if not go for it! Now if it was a different color...like the bridesmaid are wearing peach or lilac or a color like that then i would say...dont do it, find another color because then it would look a litle disrespectful but black is a very very very popular color especially after 6pm. Im sure you will not be the only guest with black on. This is something the bride should expect. Its not like youre wearing the same dress as they are nor will you be carrying a bouquet so what does it matter!?!?!?. All you have to do is wear it well with some red accessories, if not silver or gold or anything that you really like. Even with the type of shoes you wear you can make it look completely ok and unique because im sure you will look opposite of them. Have your shoes match your accessories. Girl you can definitely work around this. If the dress aint white then youre alright!!

To error on the side of caution you should ask the bride. If it's a formal, black tie affair, then a black dress is perfect and probably expected - however, since the bridesmaids dresses are black, you don't want the bride to think you are either secretly trying to include yourself or "upstage" the bridesmaids - it's the equivalent to wearing a white dress to a wedding, you just don't do it. If you have no direct access to the bride to ask, then I'd just refrain from wearing a black dress. That way you run no risk of offense. Or you can wear separates, wear a black skirt and a colored blouse. Good luck.

Black is perfect for a formal event at 6:00pm. Just make sure you do not pick something similar to the bridesmaid's and there will be no problem because some people may have issues with the guests looking better than the wedding party.

Trust me - chances are the elder family members will be too busy having a conniption over the fact that the bridesmaids are wearing black to even NOTICE that you're in the same color. You'll be just fine.

I live in the south and we were always told not to wear white or black to a wedding. I LOVE black...but I have settled on Navy before. Honestly, I don't think anyone really notices these days. Times have changed, so go on your own judgement. Oh - If you are not attending the reception, very few people will see you so it wouldn't be a big deal.

YES!!! That is proper. You can always add a shawl or bright colored piece of jewerly to make yourself look a little different. But Most people will be wearing black since the wedding is at 6:00.

Wear something that makes you feel comfortable, if it happens to be a black dress, go for it! The only thing to worry about when choosing wedding attire is that you don't wear something similar in style or color to the bride.

You really should get a different color dress because I know if someone showed in the same color as dress a my bridesmaids and that person is not close to me I would be a little up set. And if you were someone I really know it depends on who it is how mad I would get mad. You should ask the bride though in either case because she might not mind since it is an evening wedding.

There isn't anything wrong with wearing black... it's a common color. Just be sure the style is different. Who's to say you knew what the bridesmaids were wearing anyway?

By all means, wear that dress! Black is acceptable for any occasion after 6.
