I've been around boxing almost my entire life and In my opinion, it's the greatest sport ever. I started when I was eight and had close to 100 fights by the time I was twelve. I'm writing to you from experience 6 years old is just a little too young to be in the gym. There's so many other things on a six year old boys mind than boxing, his focus isn't there. There aren't too many trainers out there that will work with children that young. In order to receive a boxing passport from the amateur governing body USA Boxing you have to be eight years old or older.

Good luck and thanks for the question.

I will say the same thing that parents should know when enrolling their child in Karate School at a young age, in most cases you are wasting your money and the child will become disintrested in it rather quickly, that is why there are so many children who quit at yellow belt(the rank right above white). Unless the child is truly focused and mature, you shouldn't bother.
