I feel like its the parents place to do that.. If they give you permission then I dont see why you couldnt. I wouldnt feel right spanking someones kids though... I dont know how you feel about that. I would just use some other sort of punishment until you give them back to the parent and they can decide from there what to do.

It depends on a lot of things.
1. Does the child get spankings from the parents? If not then the answer is NO
2. Do you have permission to do this?. If not, or it was refused, then NO.
3. How long are you watching the child for? If it's less then a day, then NO. I think if spanking is permitted, there is no real reason to use it unless that child is staying with you for multiple days.
4. What kind of bond do you have with the child? Do you really honestly see the child as like your own? Would you put your life before theirs? If you spanked, would it be, just because they made you angry, or that your genuinely trying to better their life. This is kind of deep, however if you don't share that parental bond, then the answer is NO.

For example, I wouldn't allow my sister to spank my kids, however I do allow my brother (although he never has). It doesn't mean I am more close to my brother, then my sister, it's just that, he passes all the above mentioned.

This kind of cuts out most people. Not always but I wouldn't have teachers, principals, step parents, babysitters, or daycare providers spanking my children. However since, i don't live in a "school spanking" state, not divorced, and a stay at home mom, I don't really need others to do my job.

Good Luck

It is NOT OK to spank other people's kids. You may have a right to discipline your own kids by spanking them ( so controversial) . You can tell the other child's parents about the unacceptable behavior and let them deal with it.
Usually if the parents have a good system of consequences and rewards, just warning the kid that " I'm gonna have to call your parents if you continue this behavior" should make them improve their behavior. If the parents have no system , then stop taking care of their kid for them.
When parents figure out how hard it is to get someone trustworthy to babysit, they usually try to do better with discipline.

I know that everyone says that spanking a child is abuse, but sometimes the little boogers need a love tap. I would ask the parent what form of discipline they use and ask if you can. If they don't believe in spanking, I wouldn't even think about it. I know my friend has a son that is just a hell child and I would love to spank him but I know his mom would freak. Good luck with your cousin.

No, spanking is a duty left up to the parents if they choose that method of punishment. As family you should try to help guide the child by teaching him right and wrong, but it's just not right to spank someone elses child.

I know I myself believe in spanking (a swift swat on the butt if the situation called for it...not a beating) but if someone else ever laid a hand on my kid, I'd have something to say about it.

Depends. We've always had relatives in and out, and my son got spanked a few times by a grandparent or aunt or uncle. His nanny spanked him a couple times as well, because she was with him all day. I think it should only be reserved for people who love the child and see him/her often.

You shouldn't be spanking your own kids let alone someone elses. I don't feel the need to spank my kids, and if someone laid a hand on my kids let me tell you there would be hell to pay. I would press charges!

Not unless you want a lawsuit. Spanking is a parent's job alone.

IT DEPENDS WHO THE KIDS ARE TO YOU.
MY UNCLE SPANKED MY BARE BUTT IN FRONT OF MY AUNT AND 3 COUSINS WHEN I WAS 11 FOR CHEEKING MY AUNT WHEN I WAS STAYING WITH THEM FOR A WEEK.
I DIDN'T LIKE IT BUT I NEVER CHEEKED MY AUNT AGAIN.

I NEVER TOLD MY PARENTS BECAUSE I KNEW I DESERVED IT AND I MIGHT HAVE GOT ANOTHER 1 FOR DOING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE LOL
