A bitter heart lined with memories,
When all my searching leaves me empty
When tears become wine I will drink
And not care at all over ships that sink
No fonder love than in dream’s embrace
No more precious the eyes on a loving face
When the rage has accompanied the sorrow away
And a sweeter love is bound to stay
Don’t be angry with a lonely love
For one embrace is never enough
Someday, sometime, loneliness will call,
And no one will catch you when you fall...

A general unhappiness with one's life and others. Not to be confused with depression. Bitterness is as its name implies, a bitter attitude toward the world. Not a good word to say about anything. YBIC

displaced anger, jealousy, gossip, grudge holding, even right down to no humor. There have got to be a ton of other red flags besides these. Sometimes you can tell it just in the face itself.
I agree, I like this question. Good one skippy.
