On evidence, at least as easy as to fool moderns, and probably considerably more so. In those days, there was not science to evaluate claims. We have it now, but it is obvious that a lot of people do not use it.

The answer to this is easy. Every day people are being fooled by churches. For example the catholic church wants you to believe the bible is the word of god but it is actually a book made by the church for the church. although the church did not direstly write it they did put the writings together so that it woul bennifit them. Now even thought there are lots of other more pertanant texts they stick to it. Why? because it bennefits them. So even the mainstream religions are fooling people.

"How hard do you think it would be to fool biblical people???" Very VERY easy.

People are taken in by all manner of garbage. I suggest reading The Demon Haunted World: Science As A Candle In The Dark by Carl Sagan. He explains clearly why people buy into these things.

Here's a quote by Sagan from another book, "The Fine Art of Baloney Detection": One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. it is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous. (So the old bamboozles tend to persist as the new bamboozles rise.)

By the way, it's really hard for me to understand how people are still taken in by Scientology considering it's history:

It's not "biblical" people...there are some very lonely and searching souls out "there"..looking for something larger than themselves to put their spirit at ease...they are looking for whatever is missing in their lives and think someone can fill the void for them...those are the people that are vunerable to scams, shams and sharlatans...it is people who cannot make peace within themselves...

I was not deceived into becoming a Witch. Nobody preached Wicca to me, nor I preach it to others. Religious Freedom is guaranteed by our Constitution and I chose my religion because it is within my rights to choose so.

As for the man in Florida you speak about, that guy first said that he was the incarnation of the Apostle Paul, a few years later he claimed that he was Moses, then changed to say he was Jesus, and a few weeks ago he declared himself to be the Anti-Christ and tattoed the number 666 on his head and forearm.

Those of us who know the guy in person, also know that the guy was arrested and imprisoned for theft and possession of illegal substances. (Copy of the arrest record available from the Puerto Rico Department of Justice through the US Freedom of Information Act).

Maybe some day he will say that his name is Legion or, who knows? Maybe he will say he came in a space ship stolen from him by Area 51 personnel.

It must have been relatively easy, because a book was written that has been fooling people for over a thousand years.

With respect, I must mention that not all modern people are swayed by such rubbish.

I would say biblical people are already fooled.

Very easy thats why so many follow him. People who have open minds can see all views. Some people just need to look deeper to find truth.
