The great Schickelgruber, hiding in his Berlin bunker, took the cowards' way out, with a pistol shot to the "brain housing group", administered by himself or, possibly, one of his lackeys, because he didn't have the guts to even pull the trigger himself, in the end. This has never been proved, one way or the other.
It IS true, however, that he DID NOT escape, somehow, as some conspiracy "expert" types expound.
This was after his whore took poison in front of him. Whether he was too great a coward to take this way out will also be another unsolved facet of the mystery.
Both corpses were soaked in gasoline and burned in a ditch by his lackeys, several of which were captured and interrogated by Russian troops shortly after.

That question has been a mystery since 1945. Some say he committed suicide, some say he was shot...the Russians have his skull and aren't letting anyone examine it; there are no other remains found. The burned body that was found outside of the bunker when the Russians entered the city was never positively identified as that of Hitler.

The truth of what really happened to him is a mystery, and will remain such, I think.

From historical accounts, he and Eva Braun (whom he married just before their suicide pact) took poison. Then, Hitler shot himself in the head, just to make sure.

If you want to see an amazing story about the last days of Hitler in his huge Berlin bunker, and the fascinating world therein, rent the movie "Downfall". (Der Untergang). You will not be disappointed.

From a description of the remains found, as reported by the Russians who were first to reach his bunker, it is believed that his valet shot him in the back of the head.

He commited suicide rather than being captured. His men burned his and his wife's bodies (He married her right before they did it.) She drank poison and he either drank the poison as well or shot himself.

No one is really sure. The airborne says that he killed himself in his mountain fortress, while others say he killed himself in his bunker. I think that most people agree though that he killed himself in his bunker.
