Wait as long as you think he needs, if he doesn't act like he normally doe's in a few weeks, kitty is sorely missed. I would suggest going to an ASPCA adoption center and read the cat's profiles to see which ne your dog would love the most. So sorry for your loss. Stay strong, and let god be with you and your dog.

That is a hard thing for you and your pet. Losing a pet and companion is one of the hardest things in life. It is a very personal thing. My oldest cat whom I miss and my other cats miss I had to have put to sleep almost 2 years ago and I still miss him terribly and my other cats I know do too. You will know when the time is right. My heart gowes out to you and your Brittany Spaniel.

I think it would be wise to give it a bit of time before having another pet. Dogs are very different to cats when caring for them Dog care includes regular walks, the proper food, biscuits, vet care (for cats too). Cats do look after themselves and are allowed to wander but dogs owners can't do this with dogs. Are you willing to walk the dog 3/4 times a day, pay for the food and vet care? If no to any of this then don't have a dog. They are a responsibility. Sorry about Oliver.

Good luck with that one, my Mom got a new companion for her cat when the other one past, it has been over a year now and the new cat still has not been accepted, the two of them fight constantly. I suggest you ask your vet about adding another cat.

It won't be the same cat and your dog will know the difference. You can get a kitten or rescue a grown cat that may already be used to dogs. The time factor is your call.

Anytime you are ready -- your spaniel would probably welcome a new friend. And it would help her get over her loss. A kitten is probably best, because an older cat may reject the dog and compound the problem. But a young adult cat who is used to dogs might work out OK.

DON'T WAIT ANY LONGER!! ha ha. Poor baby...it might take a while for him to get used to the 'replacement'...but it will be worth it for his sake! You might want to consider getting a younger cat, though, since older cats can be less tolerant of doggie friends unless they were exposed to them in their homes. Good Luck!

7 weeks, 4 hours and 22 minutes.
If you want another cat, then go get one. There's no appropriate mourning period to observe.

The dog will appreciate the new companion now; but don't do it until you are emotionally ready
